What does a medical volunteer do?
Providing medical aid where it is needed most. This can be in areas of conflict, natural disasters and in tackling endemic disease.
Medical Similarities
Generally using all your medical skills in different environments.
Pay
As a volunteer you will probably have to subsidise yourself
Hours
Usually 6-12 month placements
Lifestyle
Hard work but usually incredibly rewarding. Can be very emotionally straining. Must be prepared to be away from friends and family for significant periods of time.
Attributes
Ability to work under pressure and stressful situations
Ability to work with limited resources
Getting Ahead
GP, A&E, O&G and trauma experience would be helpful
